Monty el pingüino / Monty the penguin

Today I'm here to talk about a curious thing of this Christmas. I don't know if the name "Monty the penguin" rings a bell to you, but here in England it has become really famous in barely one month. An English commercial chain called John Lewis has made a Christmas advertisement, which is really emotional (especially for us, because we love penguins) and it has been successful. Here you can watch the advertisement:

This advertisement has been so successful that in a few days the soft toy, which costs 95 pounds (about 120 euros) it cost 600 pounds (about 750 euros) in a bid in Ebay, it's madness!

On Sunday, when we were in London, we were walking in Oxford Street and we saw the display windows of this shop based in the advertisement with lots of penguin figures, it was simply perfect!

¿Habías oído hablar de este anuncio? ¿Qué te parece? =)

Have you heard about this advertisement? What do you think about it? =)

Winter Wonderland

Here I am again to tell you the rest of our trip to London! As I have told you we started the day in the markets, Brick Lane and Borough Market, and later we went to the Christmas market in Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland. But before we were seeing the Christmas lights in Regent St, Carnaby St and Oxford St. In Oxford St it was impossible to walk! Actually we took the bus because we had already seen these lights in the last visit to London and we went straight to Hyde Park.

Once we arrived to Hyde Park, we were looking for the ice skating rink because we had the booking at 5.15 pm, but you have to be there 20 minutes earlier. It was supposed that we had enough time to arrive there, but we couldn't find the ice skating rink, we had to ask to the staff but each one told us a different way. So finally we arrive 5 minutes late, but before that we were in everywhere, pushing the people without intention and at the end we were running, because when we found the skating rink, the entrance was in the other side!

If you want to do ice skating there, I recommend you to buy the tickets in advance, because last year we couldn't do it because it was sold out. And this year, we bought it 20 days before and there weren't tickets for Saturday, that's the reason why we went on Sunday to London.

We paid 32 pounds, about 40 euros (14,50 pounds each ticket plus 3 pounds of fees). In this price you have included the skates, but you must pay 1 pound per item in the locker, and if you want to buy the picture (you can't take your phone or camera with you) it's 8 pounds more.

How was the experience? If you consider that any of us knows how to do skating very well and it's worse on ice....it was great! hahahaha. First of all we started next to the fence, but little by little we started to enjoy it. Although I couldn't escape to fall down, but it was only once, so it's fine hahaha. The experience was amazing, doing skating on this ice rink (real ice, not like in the "ice" skating rinks in Gran Canaria), with the Christmas lights, with a woman singing on the central stage and enjoying to do ice skating.... I have not words to describe it, it was fantastic!

After that we saw the rest of the Christmas market, seeing the different stands. Here you have some pictures of that evening:

It's only one week left to be at home!!

Brick Lane y Borough Market / Brick Lane and Borough Market

As I have told you, yesterday we went to do ice skating on the skating ring in Hyde Park, at the Christmas market known as "Winter Wonderland", but before of that, we went to two markets in London. These markets aren't the biggest ones, but they are quite famous. So today I'll tell you about these markets and in another post I'll tell you our experience doing ice skating ^^ (so you won't get bored).

The first market that we visited was Brick Lane, which is placed in a street where you can see domestic markets in places which don't grab your attention and where you can see lots of wall paintings (look the pictures).

When you walk through the small streets of this small suburb of London you can see the Indian influence and also you can see many shops which draw your attention. Furthermore, as in all the London markets, there are lots of stands with international food.

Brick Lane is mainly a vintage market, so it's really important now because of the craze of wearing vintage clothes, but I have to say that I don't like this style.

And as always, there are some peculiar things as the stand where you can buy a tail or another stand where a man cuts your hair quickly while he is dancing xD.

Finally, before leaving this market we went to a special bakery of bagels, which is a special kind of bread and it looks like a donut. Bagels is a typical food of English people, and the normal one is with cheese cream and salmon. Although the bakery looks sleazy there were lots of people waiting to go inside and it's always like that!

Oh, I forgot: Near this bakery a new shop has been opened and it's a coffee shop specialised in cereals and it's called "Cereal Killer Cafe". It has generated high expectations because the bowl of cereals costs about 4 euros and Brick Lane is considered as one of the poorest suburbs of London, so in the news are talking all the time about this coffee shop. But bearing in mind all the tourist who come to see this market, I think that they won't have any problem, actually there were lots of people waiting outside and I couldn't go inside to look (but I have found this picture in Internet).

Finally, I'll talk about the second market, which is next to "The Shard", the famous skyscraper, Borough Market. This market only is specialised in food and near you can find the famous square with the umbrellas above you (I'm sure you have seen this picture before on more than one occasion).

The truth is that we didn't like too much these both markets. In Brick Lane there were too many vintage things and we don't like that and in Borough Market was because we expected a different market. Anyway I think that it's because we compare unconciously all the markets with Camden Market, which is the best one xD

Coming soon: The post about "Winter Wonderland!
