Hace ya un año escribí una entrada sobre este tema, en el que explicaba que cuando volvemos a casa por primera vez todos se esperan que seas ya toda una nativa y no... eso no es así. Ahora que ya llevamos un año y 4 meses por aquí, hablaré del mismo tema pero obviamente con una perspectiva muy diferente a cuando llevábamos sólo cuatro meses por tierras inglesas. One year ago I wrote a post about this topic, where I explained that when you go back home for first time everybody thinks you are like a native, but not, that's not like that. Now that we have been here for one year and 4 months I'll speak about the same topic, but obviously the outlook is different because when I wrote the other post, we had been here just 4 months. La respuesta a la pregunta seguiría siendo un "no", pero con matices, ya que ya estamos estudiando para un nivel "Advanced", ya podemos leer libros en inglés (hablaré de esto en otra entrada), ya podemos ir al cine y disfrutar viendo una peli, ya podemos ver la televisión sin subtítulos, ya podemos mantener una conversación por teléfono...
Bueno, leyendo todo esto pensarás que ya somos como unos ingleses más, pero no, no como para hablar inglés perfectamente, porque en clases tenemos mil errores, entre preposiciones, phrasal verbs, vocabulario... Pero si te puedo asegurar que si alguien nos habla en inglés le entenderemos (a no ser que tenga un acento muy difícil) y respecto a hablar, es más complicado, ya que de vez en cuando se te escapa un verbo en presente cuando tiene que ir en pasado, o se te olvida la colocación de un adverbio... pero lo bueno de estas cosas, es que tú misma te corriges y sabes que está mal, y si lo repites con la palabra bien dicha poco a poco irás mejorando.
The answer is still "not", but with some hints, because we are studying for the Advanced level, we can read normal English books (I'll tell you about this in another post), we can go to cinema and enjoy watching a film, we can watch the TV without subtitles, we can talk on the phone...
Well...if you read this you'll think that we are like English people, but not, we can't speak English perfectly. In the lessons we make lots of mistakes with the prepositions, phrasal verbs, vocabulary... Although I can assure you that we understand when an English person talks to us (if they don't have a difficult accent), but the speaking is different, because it's hard, sometimes you say a present tense, when it has to be in past, or you forget the position of one word... but the good thing is that you realise of this mistakes and you correct them (and if you repeat the sentences you will be learning English lyttle by little).
Como ya les dije en aquella entrada "los niños pequeños requieren de años y años para hablar correctamente una lengua y lo mismo nos pasa a todos nosotros (y no olvidemos que un niño tiene mayor capacidad de aprendizaje en sus primeros años de vida)".
Para terminar, solamente quiero añadir un comentario más a esta entrada, y es que cuando llegas de estar varios meses fuera y tus amigos te dicen "venga dime algo en inglés" cansa mucho, porque en ese momento piensas ¡¿Pero qué cojones quieres que te diga?! Si es para mantener una conversación en inglés por supuesto que no me importa, pero no me digas que te diga en inglés una frase para analizar cuánto sé o no sé, porque no...xD
As I already told you in that post "children need lots of years to speak a language perfectly and it happens the same with us (and don't forget that a child has more ability to learn in the first years)".
Finally I want to tell you something and it's that when you arrive home after some months away, your friends ask you "Tell me something in English", and that's really tiring, because you think "WTF do you want me to tell you?!" If you want to speak in English with me, I don't mind, but don't ask me to speak in English to know how much English I know or I don't know...
