I know that December hasn't finished yet, but this Tuesday we are leaving, Mikel goes to the Basque Country and I go to Gran Canaria (it's Christmas, so each one has to be with his/her own family), so I won't write anything in the blog until the third week of January. But you can't complain about that, because I have written a lot of posts this month! hahaha.

This month started with the callenge of losing weight, because I don't want to have more kilos when I come back from the holidays. So furthermore to drink my milkshake of Herbalife which I always drink in the breakfast and supper, I started to walk (and I tried to run, but I couldn't do it more than 3 minutes), but that only lasted one week xD and the worst thing it's that I lost more weight without doing any exercise than that week hahaha. At last I have achieved it, now I am in the same weight before my summer holidays, so I don't want to see how much weight I will have when I come back from Spain xD. Here you have some pictures of my walkings (every day I took a different route).

Regarding to our social life, this month we went to London, where we saw new markets and where we did ice skating, but you already know that. We also went to Freeport Braintree with the girls and we drank a hot chocolate there and another day we went to the Swan, the pub where we used to go a lot, and it was because one of the new au pairs, Jeny, was leaving because she had some problems with the family, so we went there to say her goodbye, and also we met a new au pair, who is living where Ainhoa used to. This girl is called Maria and it's Italian, it's great, not more Spanish people! hahaha

Furthermore one day we went to Harlow because there was an opening of a shop, Decathlon, and we went there to see how the shop was (there were lots of advertisement on the radio). And outside we could see a reindeer, the first reindeer I have seen in all my life!

I don't know if I have told you before that Mikel plays futsal in a team of Braintree. Last year he played in the academy because he started late, but this year he is playing in the first team, which is in second division. So the other day was the first day that I went to see him to play (I hate football), but as they lost, I gave them bad luck so it's better if I don't go anymore hahahaha.

Regarding to my HK, I am only too happy with her because we have spent two really good months. The only bad thing is that the HM and the two younger HK have left to Thailand and I won't see them until I come back from holidays, so I hope that anything changes. So now in the house are the oldest HK (who came from the University in Scotland the last week) and the HD.

Here you have a picture of me playing with my HK with the game called Jenga, but it's a different version because every stick that you take it has a question, so it's a good way to learn English.

Finally I'll talk you about the weather. This month started really cold, actually when I was sleeping and my arm was out of the duvet, it hurt so much! Because the heating doesn't work all the time. But now it's better because we have maximums of 10 degrees, which is really nice. Here you have some pictures of another frozen day (the pond was also frozen!)

¡Feliz Navidad a todos! ¡Nos vemos el próximo año!

Merry Christmas to all of you! See you next year!

It's amazing how the time is passing so fast, we have been here for one year and four months and it seems like it was only yesterday, and we have to start thinking what we are going to do later and also we need to do the paperwork now if we want to work in our career when we finish working as au pair couple (the paperwork for the General Pharmaceutical Council last at least 3 months and it happens the same with Mikel, he needs the QTS to work as a teacher in the UK).

By the way this month was very important for the English people. As I already told you on 31st October it was Halloween but in America is more important than here, although we could enjoy a different Halloween in the amusement park (you can read more in "this post").

Another important day was the Remembrance Day, on 11 November. I don't know if you can remember that I have already told you about this day in "this post". This year it was the same, but it was also the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the WWI, so they put lots of ceramic flowers around the Tower of London, there were as many ceramic flowers as death soldiers. We didn't go because it wasn't so interesting for us, furthermore the queues were really long! Here you have a picture from Internet.

Tower of London

Although the most amazing thing was when I was doing my homework at home and suddenly I heard a strong noise near our home and it was a small plane doing stunts. It was there, just in front of our house! Later my HM told me that the neighbour celebrated a party due to this special day and they booked an acrobatic pilot O_o

Regarding to my HK, this month has been one of the best that I have spent with her. She has been a good girl but I think that it's because now she is really scared of the darkness (by the fault of her classmates), so that can have an influence due to she doesn´t want to go upstairs or downstairs by herself and she does everything quickly so I don´t have time to leave before she finishes haha.

Her birthday was this month and she had a lot of presents like last year. Here you have some pictures of the presents and how the kitchen was when she arrived from school.

As often it happens in the au pairs' world some au pairs leave and others come... This month Ainhoa and Jule left and we have met two Spanish girls, Vicky, who is an au pair, and Yvonne, who is an Assistant Teacher in the same school of my HK.

The most curious thing is that Yvonne is also from Gran Canaria but not only that, we live in the same city about 5-10 minutes away one from each other! Happening something like that in London it's not very surprising because there are lots of Spanish, but here, in the countryside it's amazing! hahaha. Furthermore, I appreciate be able to say some Canary words like "guagua" or "chacho" without being stared by the other Spanish people and listening our accent so far away from home ^^.

During this month we have met in the Wetherspoon in Braintree (the cheap pub that I always talk about), we have met in our home and each one brought something to eat and later we played "Heads up!", an app to guess things (we had lot of fun!) and other day we met and asked Domino´s and also we have gone to London and other cities near our home for Christmas shopping.

So it has been a busy month, however, in December we have to be calmer because we need to save money for the holidays =) Although we will go to London to see the Christmas market, Winter Wonderland, about which I told you in "this post", and this year we will do ice skating. This time it won´t happen the same that last year, because we have already booked the tickets!

Finally, I wanted to tell you that in November the sunrise time was at 7.40 and the sunset time at 15.50 so the days that I have taken a nap before starting to work it was completely dark at 16.30 xD. Although December is the month with the least sun time, and in January we will be slowly coming back to normal.

Amanecer / Sunrise

As you have already seen in the post "Frost in November", it´s starting to be really cold. Actually, I have my hands very bad because of the cold so I spend all the time providing cream to my hands (last year it happened the same but I didn´t have any idea that it was because of the cold, due to I had never experienced something like that, but now I know the reason xD). The good new is that it's only 24 days left to come back home for Christmas!

Tomorrow starts December and our HM has bought us an Advent Calendar for each one, this year it's Maltesers and Mars. Why don't we have these great calendars in Spain? xD It hasn´t been any year that I didn´t have an Advent Calendar... so remember, tomorrow it´s time to start it!

And you, do you follow the countdown with the Advent Calendars? =)

Well... I have barely written but as you already know the HF hasn't been here, so we couldn't do so much.

When this month started I was sick, I had a big cold (the second cold in one year and three months, that's good if you think in the English weather). I was sick the previous week when the Host Parents were going to Thailand, so the HM gave me a free afternoon so I could recover because she needed me the following week to look after the HK. When they left I was 100% recovered.

They left from a Friday to (supposedly) the next Friday. but the HM asked me if I didn't mind if she stayed there a few days more and the HD came on Friday.

The week, when they weren't here, started really bad, because the youngest HK had a tantrum because on Sunday she had to do the homework (I told her on Friday and on Saturday), but when I went to the kitchen she was cooking panckakes when she had to be doing the homework (she never wants me to stay with her when she does the homework), so when I arrived at the kitchen, I took out the pancakes and told her to finish the homework. In that moment all of us were with her (Mikel and the medium HK) and the youngest HK started to shout, she showed her anger by a slam. As I know what to do with her in that moments, I left her alone and later she came back, she went to her room and later she did her homework, but she wasn't sorry.

After that, I imagined that the week will be horrible, but not, when she is alone with me she has a better behaviour than when she is with her sisters. When the HD was coming I felt that I needed a time without the HK, because I was overwhelmed (and blessed Half Term, that arrived soon).

When the HP were in Thailand, I had to sleep in the big house, and as you already know, I hate that and I am always scared there hahaha, but as I slept more days I think I got used to the noises, the bed... and I could sleep better than the other times.

On Tuesday, the HM arrived and the things returned to normality. And she brought us some presents form Thailand: dehydrated banana with toffee flavour, some chocolates with the shape of a typical Thailand taxi and a figure of elephant which is very important in Thailand's religion.

The following Saturday they went to Malta, the two youngest HK and the HM, whereas the HD went on Thursday until this Sunday, when all of them will come back (the oldest HK is in the University in Scotland, she doesn't have holidays).

So these two weeks are like a compensation for all the days that I had to be alone with the HK, now I feel better to be with her again. Don't you feel the same sometimes? That you need a week or some days away from the kids because you feel overwhelmed?

We had a free weekend between the Thailand and Malta trip, and we went to celebrate our fourth anniversary in a hotel in Harlow. There isn't any special thing in Harlow, only shops, restaurants... but we wanted to be in a good hotel, but not too much expensive, so we stayed at Holiday Inn Express Harlow, which costed 48 pounds, and it's really good. Here you have some pictures.

One of the spanish au pairs, Sara, has come back to Spain. For the farewell we met to go out, so Natalia, Hannah and we went to Chelmsford and the other girls had to take a taxi. We had been drinking in Chelmsford a while when they called us saying that they couldn't go because there wasn't any taxi. We were there a few hours more and later we come back because we didn't want a hard party, we went out only for the Sara's farewell. We could say her goodbye before leaving when we met in the pub in Felsted and met the new au pair, Jennifer, another Spanish girl.

Regarding to the new au pairs, we have met Ilka a few days ago, it's a new German au pair and she is 17. It seems that is legal to be an au pair when you are 17 if it's in Europe.

Despedida de Sara / Goodbye to Sara

The good thing when the HF had been away, is that I could change my schedule, so I was able to go to zumba lessons in Felsted (I have already talked about these lessons in the last month's summary).

As you already know, last week we had to change the time, and if you are depressed because the dark comes early, maybe you feel better if I tell you that now the sunrise is at 7, but the sunset is at 4.30 xD But I have already told you, I like it, you only have to get used to it. Now Mikel has had to change his schedule for not being in the garden in the dark.

Regarding to the weather, the cold is arriving, but it's not too much cold like the last year. It has been days with heavy rain, other days with frozen grass, but most of them have been cloudy or clear skies,  and that's weird in this month.

Supposedly here I will have to finish this summary of a boring October, but if you are an usual reader of this blog, doesn't it sound weird to you that we haven't had any strange situation with the HF away? Of course, we had, because when the family is away something has to happen xD.

Two friends of mine from Gran Canaria texted me telling that they were in London, but I couldn'g go due to the dog-sittings, so I told them to come here on Tuesday and we will drop them off at the airport next morning.

On Tuesday I was going to the tube station to pick them up when I saw that the car's battery was dying. I was in the nearest village to our home (it takes 8 minutes by car) and there it's where our garage is, so I left the car in front of the garage, which is in an industrial estate, it was late so it was really dark, there wasn't anybody... Once there I started to think which person has car and could go to Epping, and I phoned lots of people but anyone couldn't go, but finally I found one friend who can go (thank you very much Rishi).

He was at home and he didn't have the car with him, only his motorbike and he went to Epping, so I could speak with my friends (I couldn't call them because they didn't have an English number). The thing is that I gave them my English number but they hadn't called me yet.

When my friend went to Epping (it takes half an hour) I left the car in the garage and walked through a dark road until arriving to the village. While Mikel was trying to find some neighbour who could pick me up (remember that our HF isn't here), but, of course, our neighbours are on holidays as well and they aren't here.

Finally I called a taxi company and they told me that I needed to wait half an hour, so I called another one and they arrived after 10 minutes. When I was in the taxi my friend called me, he was with my friends and we agreed that they will come and next day they will take a taxi to go to the airport. So my friend had to go to his work (another half an hour) to change his motorbike by his car, come back to Epping to pick them up and come to my home (Rishi, thank you so much again!), so we had met at 7.15 in the station and they arrived at 11 to our house :O Horrible night!

It seems that they didn't call me because I gave a wrong number, it had one number more, and I checked it! So next time I will have to check the number three times, not twice xD.

When they arrived, we had the supper and we were talking. It was a long time since we met, and it's one of these relations that you feel anything changes, it doesn't matter how long it was =) Although it was a crazy night, I was really happy with the reunion.

The next day we called to the garage to explain them why our car was there, but we had to go to leave the keys, the previous day I couldn't leave them, because there wasn't any post box. So we asked to the workers in the neighbour's house if they were going to Dunmow, but we weren't lucky. Later I asked to the teacher who taught us during the summer and she could pick us up and drop us off there (Sarah thank you so much!). We didn't want to take a taxi, because they are really expensive! The previous day, when I took the taxi, it was 15 pounds (19 euros), only for 8 minutes!

At night, the HM told me that the garage called her and they said that the car won't be ready until next Tuesday, so she will change the insurance of the oldest HK's car and only Mikel can drive it.

So yesterday I went to zumba thanks to our friend's HD and when he pick us up there we saw a helicopter flying around looking for somebody with a big light spot. That grabbed our attention but we couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. When we were coming back to home we saw a crash, there was a car with a carriage for horses crashed into the trees and the door was opened. We dropped off the car to help the driver, but nobody was there. Well, I put you in the situation: a dark road where there isn't any streetlight, it was completely foggy and you found a crashed car without the driver and you don't know if the horses were there or not, a helicopter is flying around you and is pointing you with the ligh spot... for us that night was the Halloween night, not today xD

We don't know what happened, but we left because the helicopter with a megaphone said "don't touch the car", so we supposed that was a stolen car and the thief run away xD

Finally, as you already know, tonight is Halloween, I have already prepared my pumpkin, I'll show you in a specific post talking about Halloween, but by now I advance you that we are going to an amusement park in London, Thorpe Park, because due to this festival there are some special scary attrations plus the other ones, and they are opened until 10 pm.
