Resumen de Julio y Agosto / July and August summary

Esta vez he decidido hacer un resumen de Julio y Agosto juntos porque como ya sabéis en Julio tuvimos dos semanas de vacaciones, así que no tengo mucho que contar de ese mes.

El día que llegamos a casa nos encontramos con un detallito, un ramo de flores que nos había comprado la familia, en realidad es una tontería pero da mucha ilusión llegar y encontrarte algo así. Empezamos a trabajar al día siguiente que era miércoles (por lo cual la semana pasó rápidamente) y ese mismo sábado se fueron la HM y las dos HK más pequeñas a la casa que tienen en Malta mientras que el HD y la HK mayor se quedaban en casa. La ventaja de esto es que podemos salir más porque no tenemos “babysitting” de perros… bueno, esto es en teoría, porque, por ejemplo, un fin de semana que ellos estaban aquí fue el V festival (un festival de música muy importante aquí que se celebra cerca de casa) y nos tuvimos que quedar cuidando a los perros porque los dos se iban al festival. 

This time I have decided to do a summary of July and August together because as you know we were on holidays in July, so I don't have enough things to tell you about this month.

The day we arrived at home we found a nice present, a bunch of flowers which was bought by our HF, actually it seems a silly thing, but it's really nice to arrive and find somethig like that. We started to work the next day which was Wednesday (so the week pass quickly) and the Saturday the HM and the two youngest HK went to their other house in Malta, while the HD and the oldest HK stay at home. The advantage is that we can go out because we don't have to look after the doggies ("dog-sittings")... well, that's in theory, because, for example, one weekend we had to look after them because they went to the V festival (an important music festival near to our home).

Pero esta última semana, el HD y la HK mayor se han ido a Malta, así que ahora estamos todos los días con "dog-sittings", por lo que apenas podemos salir, que en realidad nos viene bien para ahorrar y así comprar el billete de avión para Navidad, que el mío por ejemplo está en torno a los 350-450 libras, es una locura de precios, así que nos toca ahorrar muchísimo. Podríamos decidir no ir o ir más tarde, pero posiblemente el próximo año ya no tendremos vacaciones en Navidad (si encontramos algún trabajo aquí) y me arrepentiré de no haberlas pasado este año allí. Así que cruzando los dedos estoy para que los precios no aumenten mucho hasta que podamos conseguir el dinero.

But last week, the HD and the oldest HK have gone to Malta, so now we are looking after the dogs every day, so we can't go out more than 3-4 hours. That is good because we need to save money to buy the Christmas' tickets, my flight tickets cost about 350-450 pounds, it's a craziness! We could decide not to go on Christmas, we could go one week before or later, but if we find a job next year maybe we won't have holidays on Christmas and I will regret if I don't go now. So I hope the prices don't rise until I have all the money.

El primer fin de semana tras las vacaciones decidimos ir a Londres y como la HK también iba a ir vino con nosotros hasta Epping en el coche y ya allí cogimos el metro. Una vez llegamos a Londres nos separamos, ella quedó con sus amigas y nosotros nos fuimos al Museo de la Ciencia. 

Los museos de la ciencia son algo especial para nosotros porque tiene un significado sentimental de cuando empezamos a salir, así que era una cita pendiente que teníamos. La verdad es que no íbamos con mucho tiempo porque ese día habíamos salido tarde así que hicimos un recorrido rápido. El museo está bien, pero en comparación con los otros que hemos estado (Granada, Tenerife y Gran Canaria) sentimos que le faltaba más cosas interactivas. Una cosa que no hicimos porque había que pagar y no teníamos dinero era montarnos en un simulador de un jet, la HK mayor nos lo había recomendado cuando íbamos en el metro, nos decía que daba la vuelta y era impresionante porque el escenario iba dando la vuelta contigo y sentías que estabas en un avión de verdad, así que tendremos que volver.

The first weekend after the holidays we decided to go to London, and the oldest HK wanted to go as well, so she came with us until Epping and there we took the tube. In London she met her friends and we went to the Science Museum.

The Sciencie Museums are really special for us, because our "first date" was in a science museum. We didn't have enough time to see everything. The museum is really good, but we prefer the other ones (like in Granada, Tenerife and Gran Canaria) because in London it wasn't too much interactive. Our HK recommend us trying the simulator, you turn 360ª and she said that is amazing, but we didn't have money, so we will have to come back.

Aprovechando que estoy hablando de la HK mayor, les contaré que antes de irnos de vacaciones la HM nos pidió permiso para que la HK cogiera nuestro coche para poder practicar, ya que su futuro coche está en el taller (recuerden que aquí cuando te estás sacando el carnet puedes conducir un coche si un adulto va contigo y tienes la pegatina con una L roja). Así que cuando nos fuimos de vacaciones la HK estuvo conduciendo con nuestro coche y, al poco de llegar nosotros, se presentó al examen y lo aprobó, por lo que lo siguió usando. 

Como el HD se va todos los días a trabajar y ella está sola en casa le vino bien sacarse el carnet para el verano. Pero un día cogió nuestro coche y tuvo un pequeño accidente con un camión y el retrovisor izquierdo se rompió. Ese mismo día lo llevamos al taller y nos dijeron que la pieza estaría al día siguiente, pero al ir se habían equivocado de pieza, así que estuvimos 3 días sin espejo retrovisor; pero lo peor era que al segundo día tuvimos que llevar a la HK a casa de una amiga que vive a una hora de casa, y con el gps y sin espejo retrovisor daba un poco de miedo, pero ese día condujo Mikel y yo le iba dando las indicaciones; lo malo era al día siguiente, porque tenía que ir yo sola a buscarla, así que imaginaros mis nervios al conducir una hora, sin saberme el camino muy bien, con las indicaciones del gps y sin espejo retrovisor…. pero nada, todo salió bien =). Y al día siguiente trajeron el coche de la HK del taller.

Talking about the oldest HK, I will tell you that before going on holidays our HM asked us if the oldest HK could drive our car because she needed to practise and her car was in the garage (remember that here you can drive while you are studying the driving lessons, you need to drive with an adut driver and to put the "L" on the car). So when we were on holidays the HK was driving with our car and later she took the exam and she passed, so she continued driving our car.

Like the HD goes to work every day and she is alone at home, it was good she passed the exam for the summer. But one day she drove and she had a little crash with a lorry, the left mirror was broken. That day we took the car to the garage and they said we need to wait until the next day because they didn't have a mirror, but the next day they had the wrong mirror, so we had to wait three days. The worst thing was that we had to drop off our HK in her friend's house which was one hour from our home by an unknown way. The first day Mikel drove and I indicated the way by the gps, but the next day I had to drive alone with the gps and without the left mirror, but everything was ok =) The next day the HK's car was fixed!

Uno de los pocos findes que no tuvimos "dog-sitting" queríamos ir a Londres, sin saber muy bien a qué parte, sólo sabíamos que queríamos ver algo nuevo, pero cuando llegamos al parking del metro no había ningún sitio y habían muchísimos coches esperando para aparcar, así que desistimos y volvimos para casa; pero en el camino se nos ocurrió ir a Hatfield Forest, que está a unos 10 minutos de casa. Es como un parque natural donde para entrar con coche debes pagar 5 libras, y una vez dentro tienes varios senderos, un puesto con comida y un pequeño lago donde puedes montarte en una barca, y como me hacía muchísima ilusión nos montamos en ella =), el precio es de 8 libras por 30 minutos. ¡La anécdota fue cuando estábamos yéndonos para casa y pasa un gran rebaño de vacas delante del coche! O_o

One of the few free weekends, we wanted to go to London, whitout knowing which part we wanted to go, we only knew that we wanted to go to a new place, but when we arrived to the car park in the tube station we saw there wasn't any space to park and there were lot of cars waiting, so we decided to go home, but in the way we changed our mind and we went to go to Hatfield Forest which is 10 minutes from our home. This place is a small forest where you have to pay 5 pounds if you go by car. Inside you have some ways to walk, a small restaurant and a small lake where you can take a small boat and we did it! The price is 8 pounds for 30 minutes. The anecdote was when we were leaving to home and a big herd of cow passed in front of the car! O_o

Respecto a la vida social, teniendo en cuenta que la mayoría de la gente está de vacaciones, que tenemos que estar con los perros y que estamos ahorrando para los billetes de navidad, apenas hemos salido. Un día fuimos al pub al cual estamos yendo últimamente en Great Dunmow con Ainhoa y Sara, este pub se llama “The Angel and Harp” y es del mismo dueño del pub que está cerca de donde nosotros vivimos "The Axe & Compasses". La verdad es que está muy bien, sobre todo ahora en verano que nos podemos sentar en la terracita.

Regarding to the social life, we have barely gone out because most people are on holidays, we have to stay with the dogs and we are saving money for the flight tickets. One day we went with Sara and Ainhoa to the pub which we are usually going in Great Dunmow, who is called "The Angel and Harp", and his owner is the same person than the pub "The Axe & Compasses", which is near to us. "The Angel and Harp" is really good, specially now in summer because we can be in the garden.

Hubo otro día que fuimos al mismo pub, pero esta vez vino más gente, y es que hacía poco había sido el cumpleaños de Sara y aprovechamos para darle el regalo. Además, en esta quedada conocimos a nuevas au pairs, a la hermana de Marine, Clemence, que está como au pair en la familia de Faustine aunque ya se fue porque la familia no quiere más au pairs (no sé si les había comentado, pero la francesa, Faustine, decidió irse de una semana para otra y coincidió con el día que nos íbamos de vacaciones) y a Hannah que es la que sustituye a Mona (que se fue mientras nosotros estábamos de vacaciones).

También hemos ido dos veces al Pizza Hut y al Wetherspoon (el pub barato); la primera vez fuimos solamente con Sara pero en la segunda vino más gente, Sara, Ainhoa, Monika, Hannah y Marine; además la última vez teníamos el 2x1 así que nos salió más barato. 

Another day we went to the same pub, but this time more people came because we gave the present to Sara for her birthday. Furthermore, we met new au pairs, Marine's sister, Clemence, who is the au pair in Faustine's house (I don't know if I have commented that Faustine, the french girl, left the same day that we started the holidays) and Hannah who is the au pair in Mona's house (she left while we were on holidays).

We have gone to Pizza Hut and Wetherspoon (the cheap pub) as well; the first time we went with Sara but in the second time more people came, Sara, Ainhoa, Monika, Hannah and Marine; and we had the offer 2x1 so it was cheaper.

El último domingo hubo una barbacoa organizada por la iglesia del pueblo y nuestra profesora de clases particulares nos invitó a que fuéramos, así que nos animamos y fuimos. No había mucha gente pero me encantó como gente inglesa que no conocíamos de nada se acercaban a hablarnos (hasta ahora hemos hablado con muy pocos ingleses, porque no hemos tenido ocasión de conocerlos). Después del asadero nos fuimos a casa porque teníamos "dog-sitting" y fuimos un rato a la piscina. Ya por la noche teníamos entradas para ir al cine para ver "Lucy", la peli no está muy allá, pero superamos con creces el enterarnos la película sin subtítulos =). Escogimos ese domingo para ir al cine porque al día siguiente no teníamos que trabajar porque era "bank holiday", es decir, era día festivo. Por cierto, la entrada nos salió gratis y es que ahora hay una promoción en el supermercado de determinadas marcas de chocolates, que si compras dos bolsas grandes o cuatro pequeñas como las de la imagen tienes una entrada gratis para ir al cine un domingo.

Last Sunday there was a BBQ organized by the village's church and our private teacher invited us, so we went there. There weren't too much people but I loved when English people who we haven't met came to us and started to speak with us (until now we have spoken with a few of english people because we haven't had the opportunity). Later we went to home because we had "dog-sitting" and we went to the swimming pool. In the evening we went to the cinema to watch "Lucy", the movie wasn't really good, but we were happy because we understood the most of the movie without subtitles! We chose that Sunday to go to the cinema because the next day we didn't have to work because it was bank holiday. By the way, we didn't pay for the cinema because there is an offer that if you buy 4 small bags or 2 big bags of determinated brands of chocolate you will have a free ticket to go to the cinema on Sundays. Y para acabar decirles que ya nos hemos inscrito para las clases de Inglés, como ya les comenté en la entrada anterior iremos a Colchester, al Colchester Institute, los martes para preparar el CAE. Las clases empiezan el 9 de Septiembre así que ya les contaré que tal =)

To finish I want to tell you that we have done the enrolment to assist to the English lessons in Colchester Institute. We will assist on Tuesdays to prepare the CAE exam. The lessons start on 9 September, so I will tell you how it goes =)
