Resumen de Diciembre / December summary

Ya sé que Diciembre aún no ha acabado, pero este martes nos vamos cada uno a su casa (es lo que tienen las Navidades, que cada uno quiere pasarlas con su familia) y tendré el blog abandonado hasta mediados de Enero. ¡Pero no se pueden quejar, eh, que este mes han tenido un mogollón de entradas! jajaja.

El mes empezó con un intento de bajar de peso lo más que pudiera para que al volver de las Navidades no pesara más que nunca. Así que aparte del batido de Herbalife que siempre me tomo para desayunar y cenar, empecé a caminar (y un intento de correr, el cual no duraba más de 3 minutos), pero esto sólo duró una semana xD y lo que más rabia me dió es que esa semana que hice mogollón de actividad física apenas bajé peso, y en cambio, en las otras semanas he bajado más jajaja. Pero bueno, objetivo cumplido, todos los kilos que aumenté cuando me fui en verano ya los bajé, así que cuando vuelva en Navidad volveré a ellos xD. Por aquí les dejo algunas de las fotos que saqué durante estas caminatas (cada día tomaba un rumbo distinto).

 

I know that December hasn't finished yet, but this Tuesday we are leaving, Mikel goes to the Basque Country and I go to Gran Canaria (it's Christmas, so each one has to be with his/her own family), so I won't write anything in the blog until the third week of January. But you can't complain about that, because I have written a lot of posts this month! hahaha.

This month started with the callenge of losing weight, because I don't want to have more kilos when I come back from the holidays. So furthermore to drink my milkshake of Herbalife which I always drink in the breakfast and supper, I started to walk (and I tried to run, but I couldn't do it more than 3 minutes), but that only lasted one week xD and the worst thing it's that I lost more weight without doing any exercise than that week hahaha. At last I have achieved it, now I am in the same weight before my summer holidays, so I don't want to see how much weight I will have when I come back from Spain xD. Respecto a nuestra vida social este mes hemos ido a Londres, donde descubrimos nuevos mercados y patinamos sobre hielo como ya pudieron leer en las entradas anteriores. También fuimos un día a Freeport Braintree a dar una vuelta con las chicas y tomarnos un chocolate calentito y un día fuimos al Swan, el pub al que antes íbamos a cada rato, y es que una de las au pairs españolas que vino hace poco, Jeny, se iba al día siguiente por problemas con la familia, así que fuimos a despedirnos y de paso conocimos a la au pair que sustituye a Ainhoa, la cual se llama Maria y es italiana. ¡Por fin, no más españoles! jajajaja.

Además un día fuimos a Harlow porque abrieron un nuevo Decathlon y fuimos a ver qué tal era, y en la parte de afuera habían varias personas promocionando cosas y una de ellas era un parque natural, y para ello habían traído un reno, ¡el primer reno que veo!

 

Regarding to our social life, this month we went to London, where we saw new markets and where we did ice skating, but you already know that. We also went to Freeport Braintree with the girls and we drank a hot chocolate there and another day we went to the Swan, the pub where we used to go a lot, and it was because one of the new au pairs, Jeny, was leaving because she had some problems with the family, so we went there to say her goodbye, and also we met a new au pair, who is living where Ainhoa used to. This girl is called Maria and it's Italian, it's great, not more Spanish people! hahaha

Furthermore one day we went to Harlow because there was an opening of a shop, Decathlon, and we went there to see how the shop was (there were lots of advertisement on the radio). And outside we could see a reindeer, the first reindeer I have seen in all my life!

 

No sé si alguna vez ya les había comentado que Mikel suele jugar al fútbol sala en un equipo de Braintree; el año pasado jugaba en el filial porque se apuntó tarde, pero este año ya está en el primer equipo, el cual está en 2ª división. Pues el otro día fue la primera vez que fui a verlo (yo odio el fútbol xD), pero como fui gafe y perdieron, me da que libro de ir más veces jajaja.

 

I don't know if I have told you before that Mikel plays futsal in a team of Braintree. Last year he played in the academy because he started late, but this year he is playing in the first team, which is in second division. So the other day was the first day that I went to see him to play (I hate football), but as they lost, I gave them bad luck so it's better if I don't go anymore hahahaha.

 

Respecto a mi HK estoy encantada con ella, porque ya son dos meses donde se ha portado genial conmigo. Lo malo es que ahora la HM y las dos HK más pequeñas se han ido a Tailandia y no volveré a verlas hasta que llegue yo de las vacaciones en Enero, así que espero que no haya cambiado en todo este tiempo. Así que ahora sólo están la HK mayor (que volvió hace una semana de la universidad de Escocia) y el HD.

Por aquí les dejo una foto de cuando jugué con mi HK al Jenga, pero es una versión especial donde tienes que preguntar lo que te ponga en cada pieza que quitas (una buena manera de aprender inglés).

 

Regarding to my HK, I am only too happy with her because we have spent two really good months. The only bad thing is that the HM and the two younger HK have left to Thailand and I won't see them until I come back from holidays, so I hope that anything changes. So now in the house are the oldest HK (who came from the University in Scotland the last week) and the HD.

Here you have a picture of me playing with my HK with the game called Jenga, but it's a different version because every stick that you take it has a question, so it's a good way to learn English.

 

Y ya para acabar sólo comentarles de que este mes empezó siendo muy frío, de hecho cuando dormía y el brazo se me quedaba fuera de la manta, al despertarme me dolía del frío, y es que la calefacción sólo está encendida a ciertas horas. Pero parece que ya se ha calmado un poco y ahora estamos teniendo máximas de 10 grados, que se agradecen bastante. Por aquí les dejo fotos de otra helada (¡incluso el lago se congeló!).

 

Finally I'll talk you about the weather. This month started really cold, actually when I was sleeping and my arm was out of the duvet, it hurt so much! Because the heating doesn't work all the time. But now it's better because we have maximums of 10 degrees, which is really nice. Here you have some pictures of another frozen day (the pond was also frozen!)

Christmas in the UK (2nd part)

Hace un año ya les hablé un poco de las diferencias que habían entre una Navidad inglesa con una española en la entrada "Christmas in the UK (1st part)". Este año no hablaré tanto sobre este tema porque lo principal ya se los he comentado.

Este año hemos vuelto a tener un árbol natural en nuestra casa, el cual nos pagó nuestra HM (el arbolito costó 35 libras, es decir, unos 45 euros O_O) y también nos regaló una corona natural para poner en la puerta, al igual que el año pasado =).

 

A year ago I told you about the main differences between the Christmas in the UK and Spain in the post  "Christmas in the UK (1st part)" (I haven't translated yet, but I'll do it asap). This year I won't tell you too much about this topic because you already know the main things.

This year we have also a natural Christmas tree in our cottage, which was bought by our HM (the tree cost 35 pounds, about 45 euros O_O) and she also gave us a Christmas wreath to put on the door, as the same as last year =).

El año pasado ya les comenté que durante el mes de Diciembre escuchabas a cada rato villancicos, sobre todo el de "All I Want For Christmas Is You" de Mariah Carey, pero este año no se está escuchando tanto, en cambio ahora es el turno de "Do They Know It's Christmas Time?", que por lo visto es una nueva versión de una canción navideña de 1984. 

La canción original hablaba sobre el hambre que padecían las personas en Etiopía en ese momento, así que este año la nueva versión ha sido modificada hablando de las personas que están padeciendo Ébola, y es cantada por muchísimos artistas como: Bono, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Clean Bandit, Ellie Goulding, Chris Martin de Coldplay, etc. Aquí les dejo el vídeo por si tienen curiosidad:

Last year I told you that in December there were lots of Christmas songs all the time in the radio and the most famous one was "All I Want For Christmas Is You" of Mariah Carey, but this year you hear more often the song "Do They Know It's Christmas Time?", which is a new version of a Christmas song created in 1984.

The original song talked about the famine in Ethiopia, but now the remake talks about the people who is suffering from Ebola, and there are lots of singers as: Bono, One Directions, Ed Sheeran, Clean Bandit, Ellie Goulding, Chris Martin (from Coldplay), etc. Here you can watch the video:

Otra canción que suena todos los días en la radio es "x More Sleeps Till Santa" (en la "x" pones el número de noches que quedan hasta que llegue Navidad). Esta canción la ponen todas las mañanas y van llevando la cuenta atrás hasta que llegue "Father Christmas". Cada vez que mi HK escucha esta canción mientras está desayunando se levanta corriendo y va a su calendario de adviento para comerse el chocolatito jajaja.

 

Another Christmas song which is all the time sounding in the radio is "x More Sleeps Till Santa" (in the "x" you have to say the number of nights until Santa comes). You can listen this song every morning and it's a countdown of the days until Christmas. Every time that my HK listens this song while she is having her breakfast, she runs to her Advent Calendar and takes the chocolate of that day hahaha.

Otra de las curiosidades que me he enterado este año es que existe el "Christmas Jumper Day", que no es nada más y nada menos que un día en el que la gente lleva puesto jerseys de Navidad para recaudar dinero para la asociación "Save the Children", donde la mínima cantidad que puedes donar es una libra (estos jerseys navideños te los encuentras en la mayoría de tiendas inglesas y tengo que decir que son horribles xD). Cada año el día va cambiando, pero siempre es un viernes. Aparte de este día, el uso de estos jerseys también sirve para hacer fiestas navideñas donde es obligatorio asistir con uno puesto. Another curious thing that I have known this year is that there is one day called "Christmas Jumper Day", which consists in wearing a Christmas jumper to raise money for the charity known as "Save the Children" and the minimum money you can give is one pound (you can find these Christmas jumpers in all the shops and they are awful! xD). Every year the day is different, but it's always on Friday. These jumpers are also an excuse to celebrate parties where you must wear one of them. here you have some pictures of these jumpers:

¿Se acuerdan de que el año pasado les hablé de los "crackers"? Esas cosas que tienen forma de caramelo alargado y que dos personas tiran de un lado y dentro hay regalos. Pues este año hemos aprendido que cada cracker normalmente trae una pequeña corona, un regalito y un chiste. 

Pero estos chistes no son chistes normales, sino chistes muy malos, más bien...malísimos (muchos tienen que ver con la pronunciación o con el doble sentido de una palabra, por lo que si no tienes un buen nivel de Inglés a lo mejor no lo entiendes). Además son chistes-adivinanzas, así que si tienes la respuesta delante primero debes intentar averigüar cual es la respuesta. En clase estuvimos viendo algunos de ellos y por aquí les dejaré los tres que más nos gustaron (pero que siguen siendo malísimos jajajaja):

"What's the quickest way to count cows? A cow-culator"

"Where do you take a sick horse? To horse-pital"

"What do you call a row of men waiting for a haircut? A barbecue (barber-queue)"

(No las traduzco porque no tendrían sentido en Español xD).

Do you remember that last year I told you what the crackers are? These things are like a long sweet and each person has to throw of each side and inside there are some presents. This year we have learnt that in every cracker you have a small crown, a present and a joke.

These craker jokes aren't normals, they are bad, really bad (most of them are related with the pronuntiation or with the double meaning of one word, so if you don't know too much English maybe you can't understand it). These jokes are like guessing games, you have to think the answer and tell them. In the lessons we were talking about some of these jokes and here you have the best three ones for us (mind you, they are really bad!):

"Where do you take a sick horse? To horse-pital"

"What do you call a row of men waiting for a haircut? A barbecue (barber-queue)"

Y ya, para terminar, les dejo algunas de las decoraciones navideñas que hemos visto por ahí (la primera foto es la casa de nuestra HF):

 

Finally, here you have some pictures of the Christmas lights in some houses (the first one is our Host Family's house):

Estas últimas casas eran impresionantes, todas estaban en la misma calle y tenían jarras para recaudar dinero (cada casa recaudaba para una causa distinta, como para la diabetes, cáncer...). En una de ellas, cuando pasabas por delante los papás noel se ponían a bailar y cantar (aquí les dejo el vídeo) y en otra de las casas empezó a caer nieve de mentira (era una máquina de espuma). ¡Era increíble!

 

These last houses were amazing, all of them were in the same street and they have some cups to raise money (each house works with a specific charity, as diabetes, cancer...). In one of the houses, the Fathers Christmas dance and sing when you pass in front of them (here you have the video) and in another one it started to snow! (fake snow, of course hahaha). It was amazing!
